Vacation

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but the capacity to act despite our fears." --John McCain

"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken." --Samuel Johnson

Enjoyable back yard vacation so far. Let's see, I've gotten some much needed sleep, took the kids on a couple of hikes, went to a friend's Birthday, had martial arts class (will again tonight), played Dungeons and Dragons (will again this week), reorganized my ever growing comic collection, finished two zines, read books and comics, caught up on TIVO, worked on laundry, fixed the kids bikes, and I still have a few more days off.

Quoteable: With-It Magi

"Look, in my mind, I have been gaining skills that give me an edge in life. I have been doing this throughout my existence. I find a lot of magicians have this attitude as well. We learn more principles in magic. We learn to hold an audience. We discover ways to entertain ... to always be able to make money, no matter where we live."

43 things

“The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him, he’s always doing both.” --James A. Michener

Check it out. Someone's small dream has been fulfilled by being published in Calliope Nerve.

Issue Three will be out next week.

Dreams Turned Into Eggs

Don-O's Dump - DREAMS TURNED INTO EGGS, SCRAMBLED Pt. 1.

Read the post inspired by Nobius. See what you're missing by not being in the APA?

Today, I'm thinking about what I'm going to do on my vacation and what poetry means in the 21st century. And for that matter, what Aikido means.

BIG .... LOTS

"Every time I fall. You catch me. Every time I lose control. You help me. You save me. Every time I lose myself. You find me. Redefine me. My God." --SOiL

"I told your mamma I'd get you home but you didn't say I have no car." --Led Zeppelin

Lots to catch up on and share with you but right now I'm working on my next issue of White Rabbit Fall! for the APA. This issue revolves around my martial arts dreams and lessons I've learned from running a magazine (I can call Calliope that can't I?). It's also chock full of mailing comments, poetry, and quotes.

And speaking of the muse, when the zine is finished I think it's time to put together the next issue of Calliope.

Can't wait, I'm on vacation all next week. No big plans to go anywhere but I will definitely be spending time writing, practicing, and with the family. Besides, any day off with pay is a damn good day.

White Rabbit Fall

From the debut issue of Calliope Nerve:

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more or less." -- Lewis Carroll

"Next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away..." --Megadeth

White Rabbit Fall

(look through mirror)
I -greater- than glass.
White Rabbit Fall.
In my world, You lack volume
Say name - o'er and o'er.

night
(mask)
You run girl.
Memories have long lives,
Nothing is forgotten.

Waiting like wanting child.
(out hands stretched.)
I got broken for you.
Some bones.
And heart.

You should know by now
Nobius knows best.
--author--
Not searching for Lewis Carrol.
(Mirror Again.)
You're searching for yourself.

dBase

The concept for dBase, the first widely used database management system for microcomputers, was the result of creator Wayne Ratcliffe’s joining a football pool at work. He wanted to find a way to win the pool, but after poring over five weeks’ worth of statistics in the newspaper, Ratcliffe decided that trying to figure out how to pick a winner by going from paper to paper “was too much to handle without a computer.” Within a week, Ratcliffe had forgotten about football and decided the world needed a natural-language database manager.

Some Other American

"In the pale light of the moon, I play the Game of You. Whoever I am. Where ever you are. I walk through the stars and sky. A trinity of You." --Neil Gaiman

"Wash never liked details to get in the way of a bad metaphor." --Josh Whedon

Some Other American

Some other Nobius
Lives upside down
Where twilight super heroes
Can't get it right
Blink out and fade
Then fall from the sky
Imperfect lenses watch
American Vertigo
Turning life to art
Fields to wheat
Artists are like that
An answer to the roses.
